Helping Children and Families Navigate Life
Foster Care & Licensing Specialist
About Me:
Krysten’s family consists of her husband, Tommy (fun fact, they’re newlyweds as of August 30th!), their three adopted children, ages 6, 9 and 15, as well as their bulldog, Addie, a Rat Terrier, Bailey, and their cat, affectionately named Galaxy Girl 2020 (GG for short)! Krysten always said that when she grows up, she wanted to adopt a child – which she did!
Her main hobby is being a mom, but in her free time – she’s learning to play piano, enjoys bowling, binge watching the newest tv show, or just watching movies with her family!
Krysten is passionate about foster care. She was in a foster home all of high school and came from a background similar to the children we serve at Compass. It only takes one caring adult to change the course of a child’s life as it did hers. She feels thankful to serve in a role where she can hopefully be a caring adult for the kids she works with. She has also fostered 16 kids ranging in age from newborns to 15 years old. She says, “While it was the hardest thing I will ever do, it has blessed my life so much more than I could have asked for. I do what I do, hoping to give back for the life-saving work that was done in my life through my foster parents.”
She has been a licensed foster parent for 10 years. While her professional experience has been helpful, she feels that “being in the trenches” of foster care has prepared her to serve Compass families in families. She previously served as a foster parent recruiter, trainer, and licenser for a different foster care agency. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science in 2012 and graduated with her master’s in Child, Youth, and Family Studies in June of 2024. She served in a variety of roles related to foster care including a visitation worker, family support, and of course fostering. Krysten joined the Compass team because of our Christian beliefs that match her own values. She is a foster parent through Compass for several years and has grown to love the staff and the organization for what it represents.
