Leah Peterson
Grant Writing Specialist
Leah hopes that everyone she interacts with feels truly heard and listened to. She believes that taking time to understand someone’s story is one of the most meaningful ways to show care, and she strives to create a space where people feel valued, supported, and respected.
Leah was drawn to Compass because of its foundation in Christ. Being part of an organization rooted in faith and committed to serving others felt like a natural fit for her heart and values.
Her passion for helping others began through volunteer work at a shelter in York, Nebraska. From there, she served as a Youth Case Manager in Grand Island, supporting young adults ages 18 to 24 as they worked toward stable housing and independence. These experiences helped shape her desire to walk alongside people during challenging seasons and be a steady source of encouragement and support.
At Compass, Leah is passionate about the work being done and the people she gets to serve alongside. She values the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others while working with a team that shares her commitment to faith, compassion, and community.
Outside of Compass, Leah enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, caring for her plants, and doting on her cat, Chubby Cakes. Her life is full of the people, hobbies, and little joys that keep her grounded and smiling.
Two Scripture passages that are meaningful to Leah are Ecclesiastes 11:5 and James 1:19. Both remind her of the importance of trusting God’s work even when we cannot fully understand it and approaching others with patience, humility, and a willingness to listen well.
Through her steady presence, compassionate heart, and desire to help others feel heard, Leah hopes to bring encouragement and care to every person she meets.
