Rachel Lyons
Foster Care Training Specialist
Rachel hopes that everyone she meets experiences a sense of comfort, warmth, and peace. She believes a smile, a laugh, and a listening ear can go a long way in helping people feel safe, supported, and cared for. Whether she's working with families, friends, or colleagues, her goal is to create an environment where people feel welcome and know they don't have to face life's challenges alone.
Rachel was drawn to Compass because of her deep desire to help others and be a source of support for those in need. Her connection to foster care is both personal and meaningful. Having lived in a kinship home herself as a teenager and later watching her oldest daughter become a foster parent, Rachel developed a special passion for supporting foster families and the children they serve. These experiences gave her a unique perspective and a heartfelt commitment to helping others navigate difficult seasons with hope and encouragement.
Throughout her career, Rachel has worked alongside individuals and families facing a variety of challenges. Her background includes serving as a family advocate for children with emotional, developmental, and intellectual disabilities, as well as working as a caregiver for older adults and individuals with intellectual disabilities. She has also spent many years investing in young people through church ministry and directing church camps, experiences that strengthened her love for serving others and building meaningful relationships.
Outside of Compass, Rachel enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing cards and board games, and relaxing around a backyard fire pit on a cool evening. She also loves traveling, reading, crafting, and tending to flowers in her garden. These simple joys help her stay connected to the people and activities she loves most.
At the center of Rachel's life are her faith and her family. She is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of others and believes that even small acts of kindness and service can have a lasting impact. Her desire to help, encourage, and support those around her guides both her personal life and her work.
One of Rachel's favorite Bible verses is John 15:13: *"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."* This verse reminds her of the incredible love Christ demonstrated through His sacrifice and the example He set for how we should love and care for others. It inspires her to serve with compassion, generosity, and a heart that puts others first.
Through her warmth, faith, and genuine love for people, Rachel strives to be a source of encouragement and support for every family she serves.
